I suspect that novices or those with a casual interest won’t be impressed with the Resident Evil franchise’s penchant for style over substance filmmaking.

I generally find that aspect to be gratifying despite a bit of thematic repetitiveness.īringing things to a close, 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter adheres to the same formula as its predecessors but, diehard series fans should find it decent enough in that regard.
The one constant, which depending on your point of view may be all that matters, has been the action. Obviously, one can’t expect deep themes, and broad plots, but it descended into the abyss with threadbare writing, rehashed situations and cardboard cutouts for characters. After the first film the series declined in terms of the quality of the storyline and essentially stayed that way through to the conclusion. Milla Jovovich has proven that she has the chops for credible butt kicking action. I have never played the video game that inspired this action/horror film franchise but the original Resident Evil looked interesting so I gave it a shot years ago and found it mildly entertaining. Over the next five films spanning 14 years the story of Alice, The Umbrella Corporation, its ulterior motivations and the resultant global impact, plays out to its conclusion. The team, joined by the amnesiac Alice, struggling to reconnect the missing dots of just how she wound up there and, Matt, an undercover environmentalist seeking to uncover the goings on in The Hive, have just three hours to shut down the lab's supercomputer and close the facility before the virus threatens to overrun the Earth. There, a deadly virus has been unleashed, killing the lab's personnel and resurrecting them as the evil Un-dead.
